Abstract

Body mass index affects the menstrual disorders because when a person experiences a certain hormonal changes that mark with a striking decrease in body weight (underweight BMI <18.5). This study aims to determine the relationship of body mass index with menstrual disorders. This study uses an analytical survey method with random sampling techniques, sampling techniques in this study using systematic random / systematic sampling. The population is all midwifery students at Stikes Yarsi Sumbar Bukitinggi 2014 which a population of 172 students and a sample of 99 people. This study uses a questionnaire and examination Body werht to determine BMI in Midwifery students STIKes Yarsi Sumbar Bukitinggi. This study using univariate and bivariate analysis. Based on the results obtained can be seen that 99 respondents, normal body mass index that has menstrual abnormalities more than half of the 68 people (68%), who have a body mass index of obese category with menstrual disorders fraction 13 people (13%), while the lean body mass index category that has menstrual abnormalities fraction 10 people (11%). After doing research on getting statistics test if p = 0.000 (p <0.05). Based on statistical test of the above it can be concluded that there is a significant relationship with a body mass index of menstrual disorders in midwifery students STIKes Yarsi Sumbar Bukitinggi. To reduce menstrual disorders in students students should exercise regularly, maintain a balanced nutrition, and avoid stress.
